Boooster 55: Look for Specific Things in the Reading Material

These four things will be in every reading assignment:

1. Main ideas - what the paragraph is about.
2. Supporting ideas - the details that support the concepts
3. Vocabulary words - the language of the discipline
4. The organizational pattern - how the information is arranged (Booster 49)

After reading a section ask yourself these questions:

What is the main idea? What is the section about?
What details support the main idea? What is the factual information?
What words are new or used in a new way? How can I use my knowledge of these new words to discuss the information?
How is this information arranged?
